Trail Hub Assessments, Department of Sport and Recreation - 2013-14
NBD undertook assessments of six towns in regional WA to determine priorities to assist these towns to become attractive destinations for trails tourists.
Dept Sport and Recreation, World Class Trails Hub Strategy For WA - 2012
NBD developed a strategy to position WA as a world-class trails-tourism destination through development of an accreditation and assessment program for activation of townsites and trail hubs.
Munda Biddi Trail Community Development Project - 2011 - 2013
NBD was the Project Manager for this $550,000 Royalties for Regions Project which worked with 7 communities to identify cycle tourism business opportunities and to adopt the Cycle Friendly Business Program.
Shire of Ravensthorpe Tourism Strategy and Brand - 2010
NBD coordinated a project team, to develop a comprehensive Tourism Strategy for the Shire to assist the community to optimise tourism following the closure of BHP’s Ravensthorpe Mine. Recommendations for branding and employment of a Tourism Manager have been implemented.
City of Fremantle Tourism Strategy - 2009
NBD undertook site analysis, research and consultations and developed a tourism strategy to guide the Council in relation to investment and tourism priorities for the next five years including in preparation for ISAF, World Sailing Championships. Many recommendations have now been implemented and as a consequence the City of Fremantle, in the 2012 Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards, won the Silver Medal with high commendation, in the ‘Local Government Award for Tourism’ category.
Shire of Capel, Capel Sports Facility Community Consultation - 2008
Two community workshops were convened to seek input to the planning and design of the Capel Sports Pavilion and then to determine community response to design options. NBD worked closely with Gresley Abas Architects to undertake this community consultation process and develop an optimum design framework.
City of Albany, Local Tourism Planning Study - 2007
In conjunction with Pracsys, NBD conducted market analysis and assessment in order to understand tourism demand and supply growth scenarios for the City of Albany.
Taggart Developments, Tourism Market Analysis, Jurien WA - 2006
NBD undertook market analysis and demand and supply assessment to provide a recommendation on the optimal accommodation configuration for the Town of Jurien.
Department of Planning and Infrastructure, Vlamingh Head Tourism Investigation Envelope - 2005
NBD, ERM and Marketrade were engaged to advise the Ningaloo Sustainable Development Committee on tourism development envelope and carrying capacity at Vlamingh Head, in view of sustainable development imperatives for the Ningaloo Reef. The brief included extensive stakeholder involvement to ascertain community values regarding development at Ningaloo and Vlamingh Head.
Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation - 2001
Working with members of the Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation, native title claimants of the Coral Bay region, NBD wrote a Tourism Development Plan including identifying new business opportunities and preparing strategies. Businesses identified include accommodation, 4WD bike tours, camping grounds and Indigenous Cultural Tours. Numerous tourism businesses are now operating as a result of the project, including Indigenous run-accommodation, tours and camping grounds.
Dampier Peninsula, Indigenous Tourism Plans - 2001
This project involved NBD working with two indigenous communities in the Kimberley to help identify their tourism development aspirations and assist them to develop sustainable tourism accommodation. The project resulted in a person being employed in Broome to implement the recommendations in the Plan.
Guildford and Swan Heritage Tourism Project - 2002 - 2004
NBD prepared a plan to convert the Guildford Courthouse into a visitor and interpretive centre. Referring to local histories, Conservation Plans for the key buildings within this highly significant precinct, tourism demand analysis and significant consultation with key stakeholders (including Guildford Historical Society and Swan Valley Tourism Council), a Plan was developed to guide the conversion of the Guildford Courthouse to a visitor and interpretive centre. The work resulted in the opening of the Swan and Eastern Region Visitor Centre which is now open 7 days per week in the Guildford Courthouse and provides heritage interpretation for this heritage listed building and for the broader National Trust listed Town site and historically significant region. The award winning Visitor Centre now fields 600,000 tourism enquiries a year including 50,000 visitors to the Centre. NBD wrote a new Interpretation Plan in 2010 to guide new developments at the site.
Curtin University, Heritage for Living Project - 2005
NBD in conjunction with David Dolan of Curtin’s Research Institute for Cultural Heritage explored the impact of heritage tourism on the towns of Broome, Kalgoorlie and New Norcia. The assessment aimed to determine heritage tourism’s impact on towns and identified opportunities to manage tourism development in the towns.
